Another possessed Sunroof
I have a 99 A6 that just started having sunroof problems. when I push the vent switch up nothing happens, when I pull it down the sunroof slides back about 6 inches. the sunroof slide open positions do nothing consistent. I replaced the switch with a new one and the problem is the same. The switch doesn't seem to know where the sunroof is, and it doesn't seem to know the difference between the vent position and the sunroof slide back commands.
The motor and everything else seems to be operating properly, it is just getting the wrong signals.
Any help is appreciated!

Very odd indeed. The sunroof switch is a potentiometer, and they tend to foul up the electrical connections quite a bit, the reason is unknown to me. I would remove the connector to the switch and check for corrosion on the pins in the connector. The "new" switch might also be faulty, just because a part is new, doesn't mean its good.

I had this same problem one day and i solved it pretty simply. I finally got it open all the way, then I disconnected the battery and moved the switch into the fully open position before I reattached it. Once it put the battery back on it worked perfectly. Hope this helps.
