Advise - going for 40K service
I bought a 2003 A6 Q, 2 weeks back. It has 41K miles on it. Though the self-check shows 1600 miles for next service, I want to take it in for the 40K service tomorrow.
I have a problem of mild vibration on the steering while engine starts and steering shakes as well as front seat while doing 60 - 80 mph speed. Hence, want to do the normal 40K service as well check wheel balance / alignment and engine mounting.
Please tell me if you have any ideas about the price I might be looking at. I am taking this in to an Audi dealer (HBL - Leesburg Pike, VA).
Awaiting your expert advises please...

RE: Advise - going for 40K service
Sarthak, I am bringing in my car for its 50k service this weekend. The dealer has said it will cost me anywhere between $250-$350 for this service, so you can expect to pay around the same amount of money. So is your car a 3.0 or a 2.7T?

The 40k service is the first major service, spark plugs, pollen filter, air filter (if 2.7T) oil and filter change, OBD GFF scan, and if you have a CVT tranny drain and fill.
The average cost of this service is close to $1,000 if you have a CVT, $800 for regular automatic.

What was the original delivery date of your car. If it hasn't hit 4 years yet the service and most other issues should be covered by the dealer under warranty.
If not a 40K service should be way more than a 50K service, they are completely different. On a 40K service you change these items:
Engine air filter
cabin air filter
oil/filter
spark plugs
ATF
and the labor would be about $300 (depending on the shop) So a 40K would run about$550-$600 (rough estimate for a v6 the v8 would be a little more)
A 50K service for v6 or v8 would run about $175-$200 on average.

RE: Advise - going for 40K service
Oops wrong information, sorry! I got my car with 46,000 miles on it and the 40k service was already done. I didn't know the services varied by that much or if they were so different. I figured it would be the same as my 50k service. Anyway, now he knows I was wrong and should expect to pay more when he goes in for the service!
Just curious, what should one expect to pay for their 60k service? Is it gonna be a major one like the 40k?
