A6 Buyer's advice. First Audi Buying This Week!
Hello,
I'm considering to buy a used 2006 Audi A6 all wheel drive 4.2 quattro with relatively high miles (97,000). I will obviously take it on a test-drive and have pre-buyers inspection done. It basically has every feature in the car that I need (bluetooth and navigation, leather etc).
The car has a clean title and there have been no major issues. The only thing that has been replaced is brakes, tires, and the heating fan motor went out once according to the seller. I know that the timing chain hasn't been replaced yet. Is this essential?
Is it safe to buy an Audi A6 with such high miles? Is there anything in particular I should look out for. I know when it comes down to used cars, I have to look at service records.
Can anybody speak from experience. Is it worth taking a risk?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Jon

I just bought a 2001 A6 Avant with 127000Miles on it for 3K. I put 2K into immediate repairs.
Its now @ 130000miles after a 1K road trip and ZERO regrets buying it.
Just be ready to put 2K in right off off the bat. And yes consider doing the timing. And get a tranny flush. I got one done on mine and it was well worth it.

The timing chain does NOT need to be replaced unless there is a problem. It is not a maintenance item like a timing belt. Replacing it involves removing the engine. Also, there is not just one chain, I believe there are at least 3.
