A6 Blower Problem

A6 Blower Problem
Hi There
My 2000 A6 1.9 TDI SE develops a problem with the climate control blower when used at motorway speeds for any length of time over about 30 minutes.
After this time, the blower still runs, but makes a loud noise which seems to come from the glove box area, and no air comes out of any of the vents. All other climate control functions (air con, heater etc) continue to work normally.
After the fault has occured, the car has to be left with the engine off for at least 1 hour before it goes back to normal. Also, if you turn off the climate control completely before driving at motorway speeds (70-80 mph) the problem does not occur at all (when you switch back on, it works fine).
Any ideas anyone? Many Thanks
Jim

RE: A6 Blower Problem
I think you need to replace the blower motor itself. If you want to try and DIY, check out my reply to a similar post here: https://www.audiforums.com/m_436137/tm.htm

RE: A6 Blower Problem
i just did mine today. most likely it is the fan side bearing in the motor assembly as it was on mine. the bosch motor is one assembly a nd you will not be able to by the bearing separately. it might be an interim solution, but for mine it did the trick take out the motor, disassemble it and flip the bearing in its shell and lube it with thick copper paste. if you want more detail on the disassembly, just let me know...
