96 A6 slow coolant leak
Hi Forum,
my name is Adil and this is my first post in this forum.
I am the original owner of a 96 A6 Quattro Wagon, it has 110kMiles on it.
2nd Transmission, otherwise mostly original.
The engine has developed a slow coolant leak. All hoses have visible calcium deposits at the ends. I am trying to buy a set of hoses but I can only identify the two main hoses from and to the radiator at online shops like thepartsbin.com
a few questions:
- where should I look for the leak?
- does anyone have a complete list of hoses needing R&R?
- how to diagnose a bad header gasket?
Thanks for your help,
Adil

That year Audi requires special A-VW antifreeze.. If it hasn't been changed you need to look for red residue - It will be apparent.
If it is a head gasket you might find something that looks like mayonaize in the oil due to water mixing with it or signs of a leak where the head contacts the block. Check around the rear of the motor also.
Many folks talk about loosing the expansion tank and I have split the seam where the radiator tank attaches to the core on at least two vehicles.
Good luck!

No water in the oil but I see seeping on the bottom right of the engine block, just to the right and under the center pulley.
What I really could use is a list of hoses I need to replace. Those online stores are not clear on some of the smaller ones. The list different internal diameters which I can't measure unless taking off the hoses.
Can someone help?
Thanks,
Adil
