looking for any performance mods for a 2004 a6 3.0.

There are none that give reasonable bang for the buck. Just enjoy a fine automobile or trade it in for an older 2.7T.

when i need to replace the exhaust i was hoping to go stainless but i can't find any aftermarket for this application either.
will any sections match to the 2.8 or 2.7...?

 

I just palced a Milltek catback on mine and it's pretty awesome. It definitely feels more than the 15-20 hp gain. Total cost was $1,700 Unitronic also makes better ECU software. That's $350. Labree also makes downpipes, but that's pretty expensive.

Be careful in getting an Audi with >70M mileage because you're gonna have to invest a few thousand into the maintenance items (turbos, timing belt the most $$$).

But, there are few options for upgrading the power for the non-turbo.
