2003 A6 3L timing belt replacement difficulty
Hello,
I'm going to replace my timing belt on my 2003 3L A6. How difficult is this? About how long does it take and are any special tools needed or can it be done with normal tools. I'm an average mechanic and have done timing belts/chains on other vehicles, but not an Audi.
If anyone has the procedures to change the belt, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to know the proper torque values and if anything else needs to be replace when changing the belt.
Thank you

Its not a terribly difficult job but not to be undertaken by the faint of heart. Set aside some extra time due to the fact that its a real PITA to get the car apart enough to get to the timing components.
You can find a link to a DIY HERE. also lists the special tools you will need. I believe the techs refer to the 3.0L timing service as the one they like the LEAST.
good luck

Buy a kit see www.blauparts.com it comes with directions.
You can rent the tools from them. They only give you 1 week with them so you need to plan it out.
I suggest you buy them instead. You will need them again!
cam shaft position tool - 2 c clamp looking things-ebay (el paso )
little pins to hold the tensioner-ebay
tool to tension the cam pulley's -ebay
crank locking pin-ebay
I metric socket sets 1/4,3/8,1/2
ball, long and short metric allen socket set.-harbor frieght
torx set- harbor frieght
It takes me about 6 hours I done it a few times.
Set a side a weekend but it is a full 12hr day event for a first timer. Because you will be reading the instructions and digging up tools and to do it.
