2003 (3.0 avk) catalytic converter help
I need some input on how to go about removing the catalytic converter on my 2003 Audi A6 3.0 Quattro. I have recently replaced the motor in the car and of course in the process I failed to clean out the flange bellows in front of the Cat, i.e. debris from the old exploded motor. I am asking advice on the easiest way to replace the Cat without pulling the motor. Any intellectual advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you gentlemen

You can get them out by dropping the bolts out of the rear subframe and loosening the front subframe bolts. Once the tranny is hanging down enough for you to clear the cats past the trans then you can use a 13mm gear wrench and take out the three bolts. The Single top bolt has to be done from above the motor, taking out the airbox for the passenger's side, and removing the two cam sensors on the drivers side is required.

Sweet its easier than I had anticipated..
Well I guess its always easier said then done but overall that doesnt sound to terribly difficult. One more quick question, if I do find the cat to be broken or dammaged is there a universal replacement one that will act close to an oem equal? I really dont want to pay the five hundred or so dollars the dealership wants for their "AUDI" catalitic.
Thank you sir for the quick response on my previous post!

$500, LOL, try $1,000 per cat. The only thing you can do is take out the cat/downpipe and have an exhaust shop cut the cats out of the old downpipes, and weld in universal ones, then have them weld in an after cat O2 sensor connection piece.
