2001 AA6 2.7T Transmission Clunk
Hello Everyone!
Well, I've been searching and searching, and have not yet found anyone that describes my exact transmission issue. I have a 2001 A6 2.7T Quattro Tiptronic, 90k. Problem: When I slow to 10 mph or less, but do NOT come to a stop, then accelerate again, even with light pressure on the pedal, I get a very hard clunk before power is restored and motion is retained. Doesn't matter if the car is cold or warm, or anything else. Could this be a problem with vacuum line pressure, or something else? No warning lights are thrown on the dash, and I have not taken it to the mechanic yet to check for codes. It should be noted that if I make a full stop (I know that is duplicitous), i.e., go to 0 mph, then accelerate, the problem does not exist. I'm losing my mind and don't want to cause any damage here, please help! FYI, I have NO other transmission problems yet.

But it sucks, and it is so hard some times that I feel like I'm going to leave the trans on the ground. I'm somewhat mechanical, but hey, these crazy German cars. . . is a vacuum tube even a possible problem? It's odd how it didn't do it from 82k to 85k miles when we bought it, but then became more troublesome and common after that. I might just take it to my guy after the new year. Oh well. Oh, and here's another good one, we live on a brick street, and it's kicking the strut's butts. LOL Crickety, crackety.

Mine can shift hard sometimes as well but not so hard I think the transmission is going to fall out. After buying my car I changed the trans fluid and the holding 1st gear and 2nd gear thump was greatly reduced. But after 6 months or so it was right back to the way it was. It is possible your engine/transmission mounts are bad and amplifying the thump.

(I just felt like you need to know at least one person finds the insight very helpful).
