Sometimes after I park my 2001 Audi a6 and get out of the vehicle I hear very faintly the sound of the car alarm going off (I literally have to bend over next to the car though to hear it). It has happened when the car was left unlocked with the car alarm off and I believe it has happened when the car has been locked with the alarm engaged as well. The sound is intermittent and sometimes goes away after letting the car sit for a period of time. It is difficult to tell where the sound is coming from (as it is so faint) but it sounded like it was coming from the rear. I popped the hood and the trunk and the sound did not get louder when opening either. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I am afraid that it might be a short and could drain the battery or lead to a fire. Any thoughts would be very helpful (I am car savy as well so I am able to understand car parts and talk).

 

on my 2001 a6, its the horn. it does it as a confirmation to let you know you locked the car.

 

cdaraghy, thank you for the response. Are you referring to the horn honking twice after locking the vehicle with the remote? If so, I am aware of this and that is normal. My situation is different, please re-read my post.

 

Well the alarm is coming from the back-left panel - it's not really accessible. If you get a vag-com you can check to see what codes are coming up because of the alarm.
