2000 A6 questions
I am looking at buying a 2000 A6 with about 110k on it that has been well kept, garaged and babied, just did the 106k tune-up which included both timing belts, water pump, and more. I am told by the owner that the only mechanical issue is a "small" leak in the rack (of the rack & pinion system) that simply loses about 1 quart of fluid over the course of a year. He says he buys this extra quart for $30-$50.
I don't know much about cars, and wonder how big of an issue this leak might turn out to be. Also, with a car that has been this well maintained, what sort of things can I expect to need my attention in the next 10-50k miles? How far are these cars (well-maintained) expected to go?
Thanks.

RE: 2000 A6 questions
I'm not a big believer in living with that kind of problem. They tend to get worse. I suggest you seek out a qualified Audi repair shop and get a quote to repair/replace. Don't be surprised if it's a $1000. You don't mention the type of engine or transmission. In the 2.7T you have to worry about turbos after a while; with the automatic I've read some very expensive issues with the torque converter.
Otherwise, most comments in this forum refer to front suspension issues and all sorts of minor but annoying electrical issues, especially with the computer display. Your best bet is to check every accessory and have the vehicle checked by someone who knows Audis, then factor what they find into your offer.
If it is truly well maintained and you do the same, it should last quite a while. Mine is at 111k with no significant problems.
