Default 2000 A-6 2.7 Twin Turbo Air Filters

Where are the engine air filters for this vehicle and can they be changed at home or is it dealer service only.
I have changed the Cabin air filter but am looking for the engine air filter
Thank you for any suggestions
Kurt

Facing the engine, it is on the left hand side in the air cover box. There are four clamps that need to be removed to open it up and it's best to remove the air intake (plastic tube) to be able to move the box and get at the filter - there's only one.

BTW, if you elect to use a K&N, make sure you drain the oil off real well so it doesn't screw up your MAF sensor.

ppgoal,
Thank you for the input.
Sounds like something I can do this weekend.
Do you suggest the K&N or should I just buy a regular (non-oil) brand?

Regular paper will do just fine. You will never feel nor see any increase due to the K&N filter as the filter is not the limiting restriction, so why spend the money? Save it for TB, control arms, TREs, transmission, spyder pipe, valve cover gaskets, brakes, washer pump seals, door latch, .....

I don't think that is true, the filter can be a huge restriction.

Any recommendations on one brand vs. another ?
Audi dealer or local parts store?
Thank you all,
Kurt
