2.7T high RPM stumbling and engine light
Hi all, need a little help here. My 03 2.7t A6 was running great up until today, I was going up an onramp to the freeway and was pushing pretty hard to pass a guy, when at around 6000 RPM the engine started to stumble a bit, also a couple very brief stumbles at around 5k. Then past 6k it started stumbling very bad, like I was lifting on and off the throttle. Then the dreaded check engine light came on. Now Im thinking "Oh sh*t, I just broke my new car!"[:@], but then once the car shifted and I eased off the throttle the CEL started blinking rapidly, then intermitently, then went off entirely after less than a minute of being lit. No further stumbling, no apparent loss of power, no idiot lights.
The car was nicely warmed up, and ambient temp was about 62F, around sea level. Unfortunately I dont have a Vag Com yet, next month I will.
I'm thinking fuel blockage, or some other problem with fuel supply. Or possibly a problem with air/fuel, bad readings from 02 sensor maybe? Maybe vacuum or boost leak?
If anyone has had this problem or knows what it might be, and how much $$$ it might be to fix I'd appreciate it. Also any opinions on whether I should continue to drive the car like this or take it immediatly to a shop? Thanks for any help you have to offer!

Flashing cel light means its miss-firing, when you check the OBD monitor see what the engine coolant temp was reading when it missed, more than likely its the coolant temp sensor, check behind the motor and see what color the sensor is, if its black, its the crappy one that always causes a miss-fire, the good one is green.

Sounds like amisfire.
Most likely a coilpack. and chances are the other 2 on that side will go soon.
I think the part is 40 bucks or so for one. LAbor mihgt be an hour or so. A DIY if you're handy

Ok, a misfire sounds about right. But what would cause an intermittent misfire only at very high RPM? Been driving it all day and it hasnt happened again. I feel like maybe the car is a little more hesitant than before, but that might just be me worrying, or it might be that Im just getting used to the power and acceleration of the car. Any more help in tracking this down would be appreciated.
BTW, I did a visual inspection and found no problems, no cracked hoses, no plumbing issues that I could see. How would I know if the turos were functioning properly? I know that its posible to check the boost, just not sure how. Thanks for any help you all can give!

CHECK THE CODES!
It might just be a failing coil pack, a bad coil amp, or even worn out plugs. Yes, the CTS, MAF, clogged air filter can also all help. You need to read the codes.

yes I know, not much can be determined for certain without the codes. Unfortunately I am flat broke at the moment, so I cant go out and buy a VAG Com. I was just hoping that I could get an idea of where to start looking once I did get a reader, or maybe someone could say " oh check the left doodad and see if its cracked" and then that would solve the problem. Anyways, I guess I will try back once i get the codes. Thanks

No worries man, that's what we're here for.
Go to a a Autoparts or Autozone, they'll read the code for free when your cell light's on next time. otherwise, yuo'll need a VAG, Post a thread to see who can use his VAG ni your area to help yuo read the code. I am sure there is one nearby.
It i smost likely a coil pack or amp.
