2.7t Crank/Flywheel QUESTION!!!!
I just have a question for someone who has knowledge on the cranks and flywheels for the 2.7.
The engine went out in my a6 2.7t 6 speed.
I bought a replacement 2.7t engine from a tip5 Allroad.
My flywheel bolt do not reach the crank!!!
The tip5 flywheel is much thinner, its like its recessed and the starter lines up with it.
Although the 6speed Flywheel is about 1-2" thick and it is not recessed and does not match up with the starter.
Do i just need the 6speed starter or swap the cranks or different flywheel or what?
Please help ASAP, thank you

That's strange!
The starters are listed as being the same on all six cylinder models, manual and automatic, so I think you are heading the wrong direction there. It looks like you have the wrong flywheel. Where did you get it from? The exploded view that I attached distinctly shows the manual flywheel with the similar "offset" as the automatic flywheel yet the manual flywheel in your picture shows no offset whatsoever. Therein, I think, lies the problem. So, again, where did you get the flywheel from?

the engine is from a 2001 Allroad 2.7t Tiprtronic.
it completely boggles my mind how it could be different but still worked.

The picture shows a spacer for the automatic flywheel, but it doesn't look like a thick spacer. Try tapping the back of the crank with a deadblow hammer to see if the invisible spacer comes loose.
And, on reviewing the exploded view in more detail the "offset" I alluded to does not exist, that was just where the ring gear was exploded off the flywheel.

Once you have pulled the tone ring/TC mount from the motor there is a spacer, take a small propane torch and gently heat the spacer, then uyse a deadblow hammer and give it a sharp tap, it will drop right off. You will be left looking at the crank, It sort of confused me when I ran up against this, but yes that entire piece at the back will pop right off
Proceed to mount the 6 speed dual mass FW, remember that it is keyed and will only go on in one position. There is no way that the starter is any different, they are the same for all APB engines, unless you picked up a BEL engine, in that case I am not positive.
