2.7T bottom end strength
Still having an A6 2.7T in my cross-hair for turbo upgrade. I was told today that the crank is weak, and anything over a K04 (450 hp at best) may jeopardize the health. Yet, I have seen turbo kits up to 800 hp for the car. What can safely be run on the 2.7T without blowing it apart?
Also: since everything is so tight in the engine bay, even slight issues are supposedly a pain in the butt to fix for the DIYer. Changing turbos requires to take the engine out?
Your comments, please on both items.

I cannot respond quantitatively, but given the car is probably over engineered for the stock engine (250-265 hp), it makes sense that it can go stage-1 318hp or even to stage-2 350-450 hp. But be realistic, 800 hp is a lot of power and even if the crankshaft can handle it, the stress it will put on the pistons, valve train, drive train is considerable. I guarantee something will break. Having said that, let's see what the guys with stage-3 upgrades tell you.

500 hp is out of my league. Going to K04s, fuel injectors, piggies, and a larger exhaust may be in the cards for me after my K03s go. I figure that will cost $4-5k and give me 400+ hp. I suggest you read up on the AWE and ECS Tuning websites or contact them directly. They make the kits and can advise on what kind of hp gains are possible. I am pretty sure you'll need a tuned chip to take advantage of the mods. Good luck and post your results.
