As a rule I've always heard that clunck = tre and squeak = bushing. - Could always be wrong

There are two ends of a CA. If it is squeeking, its probably the bushing side. If it is clunking you hear, you either have a bad TRE or the ball joint on the end of the CA is bad. The ball joint in the CA is pretty much the same thing as the ball joint in the TRE so they make a similiar noise. Changing out the bushing on the CA won't do anything to fix a loose ball joint on the other end of the CA. So in your case, I still think its better for you to replace the whole CA. You don't want to go through the hassle of popping the bushing just to find out you need to replace the whole CA anyway. The ball joint is not replacable as far as I know.

 

I would also like to know if there is a co. that sells these bushings. Now that the weather is getting warmer and the windows are down i here the creaking again. [:@]

 

might as well just replace the whole controll arm.. your gonna have them out and they are going to wear out regaurdless

a definite clunk means a bad bushing or ball joint but just a squeak means the rubber on the things are dry and need spraying with silicon to refresh them and its a common problem

 

Huh - no clunks on mine, or squeaks

 

To check the TRE:
Jack up the car and let the tire hang.
With your hands on the tire in a 9 3 position shake the wheel.
Look above and to the back side of the wheel.
If the TRE is loose, you'll see the movement.
