Xenon Installation

Xenon Installation
I have a 99 a4 2.8 and i was just wondering what i would have to do to replace the lights with some hid lights. I've seen headlight replacement kits, and then i've seen just the regular bulbs themselves. There is a huge price difference so i was wanting to know which i should get and if i need to get the ballast? or something like that so they work.

Do you have a 1999 or a 1999.5? Do you have projector headlights (99.5)? I would not retrofit xenon into the old style reflector housings, as the light output will be crappy. If you want to go all out, pick up a set of of E-code Euro headlights from someplace like Ecstuning. As for a xenon kit I would recommend http://www.oemhid.com
If you are looking at cheap bulbs that claim to be xenon or hid, they are scams. It is just a halogen bulb with a small amount of xenon gas inside. A true xenon (HID) system consists of the ballasts, bulbs and ignitors. Expect to pay over $200 just for the xenon kit.

I just told you. If your car has projector headlights then it is a 99.5 if they are the old glass block headlights that are almost frosted looking then it is a 99. Also the 99.5 has the fog lights in the lower bumper where the 99 has them integrated into the headlights.
