Xenon headlamp flickering!

Xenon headlamp flickering!
I have an '03 A4 1.8T Avant (Sport) that has been great, except for a few issues. While still under warranty we noticed that one of the (factory) xenon headlamps was flickering occasionally. We brought it to the dealer who acknowledged the problem and said it was a known issue. Something to do with the ballast and that there was not currently a fix? [:@]Well, its now out of warranty and the problem is getting worse, with an occasional error about a headlamp dip.
Anybody have any idea of what the problem could be? Since this was a pre-existing problem when the car was under warranty I'm hoping the dealer will re-address the problem. Any info fro other A4 owners would be appreciated.
Cheers,

RE: Xenon headlamp flickering!
Thanks. Would a faulty ballast also cause that "Headlight Dip" error I keep getting?
I'm a pretty hands on kind of guy. If I find a replacement ballast is this something I could do myself? A quick scan on eBay shows quite a few Valeo D1R D1S ballasts.

Yes it can. The balast can cause the headlight to go completely out which would cause that error message. Its really not that hard to do. You will most likly need a tamperproof torx set to remove the screws holding the balast to headlamp assembly, but ive seen them at sears.
