Try turning on the air conditioner.

I the film is greasy however and recurs rapidly you may have a pinhole leak in the heater core.

Hi it doesn't return quickly and once it's on the window is very hard to get rid of!! I have just really has to scrub/polish the window to get rid of it then I drove about 15 mins with no signs of the window misting up again!! this is weird. I don't think it's the heater core.
Cheers Rich

I guarantee it is the Heater Core! The coolant level will probably go down literaly a few drops of moisture so you wont notice it much.

Try 1) Cleaning the windshield thoroughly with glass cleaner

2) Running the AC when the windshield does fog up

3) Putting radiator "Stop leak" in your system to stop the leak in heater core.. although I would only do this as a last resort to replacing the core. Generaly this stuff can gum up your cooling system, and it wont stop the leak anyways.

OH AND - what is the weather like!?? I thought my car had a faulty heater core a few months ago, but all it was was that it was incredibly humid out for a few weeks in teh fall and everybody's car windows were fogging up
