Wierd Wistle Sound at Cold Start -04 A4 1.8T
Anyone know what this could be?
When I start my car and it's cold out I hear a wierd whistle sound that last for a minute or two until the engine gets going/warmed up. It sounds like something winding down when it comes to a stop. Could this be my turbo or ???
Any Ideas?
Something to worry about?

check power steering fluid level and belts ( mostly its the power steering building up pressure on the newer cars ) the newer they get the more problems they create im sure its a cash ploy with the makers

This happened to me last month. It is your surpendine belt tentioner.

Thats more common on the 4.2L S4, sounds like a train whistle when you rev up the engine. Now thats a good possiblity, but doesn't necessarily mean thats it. A good way to tell if its the serpintine belt tensioner would to be take off the serpintine belt and run the engine while its cold to see if the noise is still there.

Its an 04, its SAI (secondary air injection for you dave [8D]). You will also see that your rpms should be ~1k and then drop to ~800 when its off.
