After i changed the oil on my 02 a4 i noticed as i excellerate there is a low hum, thats get louder as i excellerate, when i heard this i got scared and was thinking crap is my belt gonna break so i immediatly pulled it out of gear and let the engine go to idle, i was at 70 when i did this and noise didnt go away, i felt some releaf but not the question is what is it? is there an easy way to tell if my car has had the belt dont or should i jsut bring it to the audi place and let them give it a once over. Has anyone heard of this before is it a tire issue, maybe a bearing??

If it comes back, and speads up with acceleration and not with what gear you are in then it is your wheel bearing. not the easiest of jobs - I got my bearing from Purems and had it installed - guy charged me $200 to install it. - they have to either take control arms all apart or kinda rotate everything and get a press in there to pop out the bearing. not the weekend warrior kind of DIY,

I had a similar noise coming from right underneath me as I was driving and it was the connection to each cat from the exhaust... It had a slight hole and audi wanted 1400 to replace the entire thing... I bought the brace thing that connects the two for 24 dollars at autozone ( that was for the two ) and had a guy weld it on and that took care of the problem... Just wanted to throw out some other possiblities seeing as the sound you described could've come from anywhere
