I don't remember anyone saying that you couldn't do it.
Everyone just says that it's not easy finding a generic intercooler that will fit behind the stock B5 bumper.

If the inlet/outlets are 2.5" you may see a bit of a problem w/ the k03/k04..
DIY isnt really even that necessary, because its quite foward, and obvious.
Depening on how much pipe you want to make is the degree of difficulty.
You are using crushed bent pipes on this?

The only two differences I've noticed (since it's been really cold here after I got it done) is a little quicker boost responce due to a shorter air path with less bends. The bigger change has been the low end torque, since it is a more direct path into the throttle body. And I went to the local muffler shop and had them bend the pipe for me, so smooth corners, not crushed. And I'll try to put togther a DIY. And it's a k03 (although that will be going soon) and a dahlback stage one chip.
