Do you step on the clutch? If the car is parked in 1st I understand doing so...but if the car is parked in neutral...do you have to step on the clutch when starting the car?

I think that's an obvious safety feature.

takes the fun right out of driving on the starter though.... Thats an offroad trick for starting on an incline, from a stall, when the chance of you rolling back even a short bit might mean you don't stop rolling until you're at the bottom of the hill (and by rolling, I mean head over heels). Starters don't usually like it anyway...

My 93 90CS didn't require the clutch to be compressed in order to start the car, my 02 A4 does.

I always start the car with clutch in but I don't think it matters at all either way with my car. It's a late '01 1.8T 150 A4.

The only vehicle I've driven that did'nt need the clutch pushed in is my kid bro's Toyota Tacoma. It has a clutch overide button on the dash.

well you can start my car without stepping on it....but does it hurt anything? Like if the car is sitting in my garage on a flat surface in neutral not moving anywhere...even with the E brake on....does it do damage?
