Default When Did the A4 Start Using the Cluster Display Screen?

I was wondering what year the A4 Started using the pixel display screen in the cluster, opposed to the old series of "dummy lights". I tried searching before posting up but didnt find anything conclusive, if anyone knows, that would be greatly appreciated.

My 2002 A4 has it, so it was before 2002. My parent's 2001 Passat, which should have similar components, also has it. I think it probably happened in 2000 when they did some other updates.

thats what i thought, but i came across a 99 that didnt have the newer taillights or the one piece headlights and yet it had the pixel cluster, which is why it got me thinking maybe it was before then, butmaybe the car i was looking at was just an odd ball

I purchased an Audi A4 1998 MY Brochure off eBay - guess what - all pictures in that brochure of any model's (avant/2.8/1.8t) show the digital/LCD dash. My 98.5 does not have the pixel dash though.[&:]
