Default Wheel spacers...

I have a question, my friend has an 02 A6 2.7, he has 35mm offset wheels but his hp2 calipers don't clear the rim, I believe he needs a minimum of 42mm offset to clear the hp2s... what type of wheel spacer should he use? What mm size spacer?thanks...

sorry guys tried the a6 forums but its dead, plus I always post on this part lol

Default RE: Wheel spacers...

Learn more about et (offset) as you are either quoting wrong numbers or you don't understand it. Pushing the wheels out further from the center of the car will be a lower number. For instance, a B7 RS4 has a wide stance with offset of et28, wheras a stock B6 A4 has an offset of et45.
So, your friend's et35 is actually a wider stance (wheels are pushed further out from center) than the et42 required for clearing those brakes. So, in effect, he should be clearing them.
My wheels have offset of et42mm and I run 8mm spacers to clear my brakes, so I have total offset of et34mm (42-8=34).
Does that make sense? To put it simply, the more "pushed out the wheel", the lower the offset number.
There is much more to clearing brakes than just offset. How the spoke and hub are angled determines a lot as well. Two different types of wheel with the same offset and only one may clear the same brakes.
If you find that his wheels don't clear the brakes and you're just quoting wrong et numbers, then spacers are OK. I wouldn't go larger than 8-10mm, though, and make sure the spacer is hubcentric. Don't "cheap out" on eBay stuff. Good spacers with new lugs that are long enough can run in to the hundreds of dollars. Cheap spacers will destroy your car and cause all kind of vibrations.
