Default whats the best oil filter?

I have done some searching and I thought bring it to a poll... alot of people audi and vw have found using different filters (bigger) some oem with success...what do you use?

What oil filter and size do you use on your 1.8T A4?

We all want to avoid that nasty Mr. Sludge and the best oil pressure....

Everyone is going to say the OEM dealer stuff, without any research or backing other than "it's what audi says". If Audi could design an engine that didn't cook (non-approved) synthetic oil, why listen?

I use the wix 51333 because of the added capacity and I got them for $5.50 each off fleetfilter.com. The 51333 (napa 1333) is the same equivalent of the Mann made purolator L40316.

In searching there seems to be alot of debate over flow rates and bypass valve pressure ...

here is a good link about it over in the B5 passat forum...

I wouldn't have a problem using any of those if I had a 1.8t. I was able to get my wix 51333s at more than half the cost of NAPA and 3/4ths the cost of parts america/AAP.

Trey,

Have you researched the bypass pressure on the M1 unit? I bet it's not correct for the 1.8
