Default What year Audi should I look for?

Hey guys/girls,

I'm planning on buying an Audi very soon. I was looking at newer MB's, but it seems like they have quite a few problems (2001-2004) and I don't like the look of the old MB's that much.

So I decided to look at Audis. I was looking at buying a 1997-2000 A4 because I like the body style and its very affordable.

Are these years good? Any years that I should look out for? My friend has an S4 and his turbos went out before 50k on it, so just worried if a 1.8T will have the same type of problem. Should I go with a v6 model?

All thoughts/help would be very much appreciated

well the v6 is the lazy persons car with auto box "ideal for me", I agree the MB has many problems in the electrical department like wires corroding so the Audi has an advantage and its a sensible price ( 1.8T ) is the better for upgrades if you like a little power

I've always heard that 97's have the most problems, especially in the 1.8T model.

All Audi's have there own little problems you will learn that with whichever model you decide. The only problem with 97's is oil sludge issues but if its well maintained and treated right it will not have any real issues. 97's have an aeb block with 20mm wrist pins which translates into better internals than any other audi block in the 1.8l line. So if your planning on packing 200+ hp than all you have to do is buy rods with stock pistons. Not only is the block better but its (drive by cable) which means its more responsive than (dbw) audis and doesnt lagg whatsoever.

Thanks guys for the replies. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I'll be an Audi member soon.

So the turbos going out on the S4, is that typical on them? Or are turbos just like that (wear out after so many miles)?

Lol tip you make it sound like S4's are bit pieces of ****, lol..... there really not but they do have some issues but if your keep them well maintained they will last a long time as for turbos I think they purposly go out so you can upgrade to k04's its just one of those things

Do the S4s and A4s have the same type of turbo?
