what r the negatives of using an APR chip?
Hi all:
I hear great things from some of you about the APR chips. However, you don't get something for nothing. What are the negatives of using these chips? Will I have to replace the turbo in 40K?
Also, what if I get an extended warranty? Will I have to solder out the chip whenever I have a problem? Is it best not to mix an extended warranty with aftermarket mods?
Thanks!
I have:
2002 A4 1.8T Quattro
Goodwood Green
49.1K miles

you can get a flash loader that doesn't actually modify your ecu physically, so it's undetectable and won't void your warranty...the only negative effect is increased engine wear, but it's not going to kill your turbo or anything else really. i've seen guys who have put 100k miles on chips with no problems, and guys that have chipped well after 100k miles, also with no problems (at least none caused directly by the chip anyway)...it is obviously going to push your engine slightly harder though, not to mention the fact that you'll be driving it harder anyway

no APR i belive now REFLASHES the ECU now for the B6s
so there will be no soldering need
u kno more boost would be more stresss on the turbo but it should be ok
as long as u dont drive like a maniac everyday

I just got my APR this week. I am suspecting I have some leaks so I am not at full power right now.
Only negative thing that I can imagine is that sometimes when I try to pass some one quickly I find my self at +100mph without even noticing so it can easly get you tickets

u kno the real down side to an APR reflash is the PRICE
you are paying for something that isnt physical and its so expensive
they just use and copy the same program over and over

Yea I agree with Panda . All it is really , is software, which once they have developed, costs nothing.
I have 93 Octane on my 03 and love it.
Aside from loosing some gas milage , its otherwise great.

The only reason you lost gas mileage is cause you're heavier on the gas now The chip actually improves gas mileage... that fact is negated by a sudden change in driving style.
