What to expect after 50K miles?

What to expect after 50K miles?
I had started a previous thread on experience with factory extended warranties. Didn't get a lot of response on that one, so I'll try another angle.
For those of you with an A4 1.8TQ, what kind of problems have you experienced after your warranty ran out? A friend of mine is nearing 50K miles and he's wondering if he should get an extended warranty from the dealer.
I'd like to be able to give him some quality information.
Thanks in advance for your time and expertise!

I believe problem doesn't really shows up until about 120,000 Km. Most of the things that need replacement are done around 100,000 km. I know I did my timing belt and water pump, valve cover gasket, tranny seal, vacumm hoses at around 100,000. So far, I have 114,000 and no problem. Crossing my finger!

well i've heard you can push down on the four corners of the car, and listen for a squeak. Often tiems when you go over bumps you'll here squeaking and thumps. You can also jack the car up and see if there is any play in the control arms. They should be solid.
