Ok. Here is the story with the car...

Before I went on Active Duty, the oil light would come on and off periodically. 4 days before I left, I took it to the Audi dealership to have them tune it up. I also told them about the oil light. They called back saying that the engine needed desluged. The vehicle had over 100K on it. I told them nah, I'll deal with it my way. I call a local delarship that runs solution through the engine for desludging so this is how I was going to do it first before paying 1200 bucks. Anyhow, I went back to the Audi dealership and got my car. Well, I knew something was up just by the way it started. Didn't feel right. Well, anyhow, I drove the car home, babying it, and about 2 min from my house, it started to shut down. Next day, I got it towed in the garage, bought another vehicle, and then next day left for duty.

About 3 days ago, I called a local Euro Mechanic. Told him the problem. The mechanic said that he would recommend a full factory engine rebuild on it. I personally dont know what is wrong with the engine. I'm pretty sure is will turn over. I don't like taking euro cars to mechanic because in my opinion, alot of them just want to take advantage of you becuase it's a euro car. If it's a simple problem like flushing the engine, replacing a few gaskets, etc...then I'm for it cause then I can put more money in the car for speed. Anyhow, let me know what you all think the problem is or if you need more info.

Thanks,
Travis

If the engine turns over, you could try to drop the oil pan and change the oil pump. However this, I would estimate is a 500 dollar job. No guarantee that you havent scored the bearings.

I was talking to my uncle in ND. that hasa shop and deals alot with VW & Audi. He was telling me that it does cost about $1200 to fix a sluge problem. (he told me this 1month ago) The reason it's so much is all the lines need to be replaced not flushed cause fluids just cant remove all the carbon & what not.

Now with your car i would either:
a) Buy internal parts and bring it to a good engine rebuilder.

b) Spend the $3800-$4800 for a rebuilt motor. (which by the way is never the final price)

c) Shop for a used motor have a shop put it in and sell it.

Pull the oil pan and look at the pickup screen... if it's clogged, clean it and see if that gets it going right again...
Same thing happenend to my 2002 A4 at around 60,000. Sludge clogged up the screen. I didn't have time to deal with it myself due to a new job, so I took it to a trusted euro mechanic here in Nashville (PLUG: Import Auto at the split of West End and Broadway) and they dropped the oil pan and cleaned things up. Luckly for me, most of the sludge was only there not much of it in the engine at the time. I'm still not seeing much sludge these days in the engine or elsewhere, so I think I saved it just in time.

i was thinking when i got a free minute to take off the oilpan and clean off my screen, even though my car only has 45k on it. i did notice some crap accumulate on the inside of theoilfiller cap. david9999u said the engine has to be hoisted to drop the oil pan or to get to the oil pump?
