Default What to do with my A4

I have a 2001 A4 1.8T. Before I got put on orders, I had my car serviced. They said I need my engine desludge and it was going to cost 1200. Well, I didn't have the cash then so I said do a normal service and I'll get it later. Well, on the way home, I was 1 mile from my house and the engine died. Sure enough, I had to go out and spend alot more to buy another vehicle. Now I have a A4 that I had sitting in my garage for about 6 months and I'm looking to get the engine replaced and get rid of it. I call a local shop that does this work and dont engine swaps on Audi's. They said for a engine swap, it will be 3500 (engine and labor) but they recommend a full engine factoryrebuild and that cost 4800. Well, I'm thinking if I go a factory rebuild, I should just keep the car and it will be like brand new. Plus I could give it alittle more power, chip, exhaust, etc... My question, should I get a factory rebuild or should I just find an engine, replace it and get rid of it.

Thanks,
space

Does the engine turn over? Did your oil pressure light come on?

I would rebuild the motor with forged internals and make it a lot faster.

well, last I checked the engine turned over. The oil pressure light came on. I'm not playing the lets find out whats wrong, I figure it would be best, just to fix the engine and either keep it or get rid of it. I'm not looking for forged or stuff...just something like a chip, intake and exhaust to make it move like the subaru I had...

Are you taking it to the audi dealer or a local euro mechanic? I can't imagine that your engine is that fu(ked. Have you had the car looked at by a euro mechanic? Or are you just going on the dealerships word that you need a new engine?
what exactly is the reason they are telling you, you need a new engine - they just can't say "yep the whole dam thing is shot." It has to be something major. Was it the timing belt?

How many miles do you have on your car?

Yup, im suspicious if they treated the car right.

Keep all your receipts, take it to a CERTIFIED audi repair and have them look in the engine, ask them if the work on your recipts has been done.

Im thinking the place that you went to fucked with your car.. (didnt put enough oil in it.. loosening some bolts.. bla bla bla)
You might be needing to take some legal action..

They wanted you to desludge a 5 year old engine? ya.. im not to keen about the place you went to..

You don't need "Certified" audi repair. Just ask around and take it to a good EURO shop - if you don't know of one a really good way to do it is find a reputable upscale used car dealer that doesn't have their own garage. Call them or go in and testdrive something - ask them where they take their Audi's to get worked on - take it there. #1 means their are fair on price #2 they are good and stand behind their work.

Pull the oil pan and look at the pickup screen... if it's clogged, clean it and see if that gets it going right again...

If the engine died, it may be siezed. If you want to risk a few bucks, see if the engine will manually turn over. If it isn't seized it MAY be salvageable. You would then have to have the pan dropped and a new oil pump put in (which you should have done in the first place). This is not inexpensive because the engine has to be hoisted to remove the oil pan.
