RE: what cars will a stock 2.8 beat off the line
You drive a 12v that runs 17 sec 1/4's. The only thing you will beat are tiny econo boxes that make ~100hp and get well over 30mpg. So a civic with a d15 is what your looking at along with a xA and xB.
Feel better now?

if you can't beat a stock 1.8t then that is on you because you have 40 extra hp and more torque.

Your friend cant drive^ And guess what? The cool to touch metal pipe on your intake has nothing to do with the hot temps the exposed filter is sucking in. The heat is disipated from the pipe quickly, so that means nothing. If its ice cold, then Id really like to know where you purchased this magical intake.

To disagree with you - he is not a bad driver. I didnt come here to lie to you guys, what good would that do anyways? I'm not a turbo engine audi hater... I also own a 2007 B7 2.0t A4 and a 2000 2.7tt A6
i know what those cars can do. I also know that people seriously underestimate the 30v. its still... WOW... extremely fun to drive, and it handles better than any other 1.8t i've ever driven (sport package).

ok i dont mean to be mean but i have a proposal.
next time im home from college (which is in a few weeks) ill race my friend again and ill record it. if i win, you have to admit to the fact that a chipped 1.8t still isnt that fast. if i lose ill never talk trash on these forums again and you are comptlety and 100% with no exception correct about everything. deal? i know his car is a passat but i think thats a more than fair trade off since its fwd and it lighter (i think).

Pre 01 A4's would lose to a 30v stock but with a chip they will win. Stock, they should get the jump tho cuz they produce torque at a lower rpm than the v6 and they are slightly lighter, if you can launch it right that is...

Well, the point of saying what I have said is - everyone here is arguing here about numbers and estimated HP - but there are few quips on actual 2.8's beating other cars in a race... the original topic of discussion.
