RE: What Can a Chipped 1.8T Beat?
if you wanna race your a4 the best way to do it is from a 30mph start. thats wut i normally do cause there are plenty of cars that would kill me in a dead stop. from 30mph it makes it a much closer race. my friends slaab 93 that is worked like hell kills me from a dead stop cause he has FWD, but when we get on the parkways he has a really hard time gaining any distance on me. our cars are very tourquey they just have a hard time getting started thats all.

yeah pretty much..he just has those two wheels to spin so he gets his power to the ground quicker, plus he can just dump the clutch at like 6k rpms and launch like hell while im still feathering outta first haha.

I would def. say I'm in the mid 14s now after the new clutch/fw and intake shield. It launches like crazy from a dig and my 0-60 is near 5.8.

So when your racing somebody in 5th gear and both of your RPM's are movin towards 8k aka redline, Then you shift into 6th drop down to about 4-5k RPM's and your car moves up to a higher top speed then him and he stays there whats that called?

6th gear will not help you "take" anyone. It is an overdrive gear made for decreasing RPMs on the freeway to improve fuel efficiency and relieve stress on the engine. If you shift into 6th, you may be able to reach a higher top speed than someone limited to 5 gears but you wont "take" them.

The more powerful a car, the more low end torque the less gears you want. Theres a reason why top fuel dragsters are 2 speeds. A 5 speed is fine for most cars. Theres a reason why most people who are in the 9s with their evos have 5 speeds. NOt all 6 speeds are equal either. On miatas the 6th gear isn't meant as an over drive but rather to keep the engine on the boil at all times. There is a diffrence of 1 or 2 hundred RPM at 80 with the 6spd. On a Viper the 6th gear puts the car at some rediculous RPm like 1400 or 1500 at 85 RPM as a super over drive. YOu will never shift past 4th no matter how fast in the quarter unless you got some rediculous mods. They made the STI with a taller 5th gear so you DON'T shift in to 6th in the quarter if you have work done. The only thing good about a 6spd in a drag race from a roll on a low hp car is that it can be brought on the boil quickly and held there longer. This is particularly useful on the racetrack that has turns in it. The more HP and torque you have and the broader the power band the less gears you have the better for drag racing, the extra ones are just a hinderance.

Yea, these cars are slow in the city, but I love mine on the highways! I had a EVO trying to race me on the interstate one day; he was able to keep up but then he hit his govenor (at about 130) so he wasn't able to keep up with me at 150
