So I've had this sound for I dunno how long, didn't notice it until after I got chipped...so maybe since I got chipped. As soon as I hit my spike in PSI I get a very weird sound, its hard to describe. Definitly not a whistle or high pitch sound, its low and poppy/clunky sounding? It only happens in a spurt when I hit my spike, like for 1 sec but its loud enough to wonder wtf it is. Anyone?

PS. changed my plugs today to colder plugs with the smaller gap...my old plugs were toast...who knew you were suppose to change that when you got chipped...

 

hate to tell u this but it could be the turbo. check ur dv too

 

I was thinking maybe dv, but I just replaced that bastard like a month ago. Can't be like a hose collapsing or any crap like that right?

 

hoses usually cause like a leaking air sound. unless ur car was a musician in its past life lol

 

I dont know how you can associate "loud and poppy" with a turbo or dv????
Im thinking it could be detonation. Does it do it all the time? Or just occasionaly?

 

Only when I am WOT and the boost hits its peak. Most noticeable in 2nd gear since the air noise isnt too loud. But it does tend to be quieter the second time I WOT it to try to fix a location on the sound. I dunno what detonation sounds like, or really what that means exactly...And it doesn't matter if the car is warm or not, noise still occurs...going to search detonation tomorrow and learn. Thanks.

 

I would check your vac line to the dv, It might have cracks or holes making the dv do wierd things.

 

So it happens EVERY time you go WOT/high boost? Detonation is pre ignition, meaning the explosion of gas/air happens too soon/before the piston reaches the up stroke. It puts a lot of down force on the piston that is trying to go up, and can kill your piston rod(s). Its normaly caused by having a lean mixture/too much hot air (boost)or usinglow octane gas. Severe detonation sounds likeloudfast ticking/tapping.
