Default Weird Coolant Phenomenom....Reasons?

I had just topped my windshield wiper fluid yestarday and checked my oil and coolant and yada yada...everything was full and fine.

Today i take about a 45 min drive and my low coolant light comes on..i was driving it kind of hard but never exceeding 90 mph...I pull over and my coolant container was almost bone dry after being full the previous day.

So i had some coolant in my trunk in which i proceeded to fill it up all the way..drove the rest of the way to work (approx 5 more mins.) checked it when i got there still topped off...worked for about 4 hours and went to go home..popped the hood checked it again and it was still full. So i proceed to take my 45 mins drive home and make the trip the whole way without any coolant warnings, get home pop the hood and its still topped off and avg'd probably 80-85 all the way home.

Any particular reason my coolant woulda just dumped out in 1 day like it did and after i fill it it seems like its fine. Iam 100 percent positive it was full the previous day. Also my car has been sitting for about 4 hours and right before i made this post i went and drove it around the block and its still fine.

Also when i turn my car off it makes a "hisssing" noise from a tube near my battery, i dont know if that has anything to do with this problem or if its normal...

So ultimately my question is should i worry about it or not worry about it? possible explanations?

thnx.

there should be 2 tubes by the firewall, they are connected to the heater core. i have no idea why it would leak like that and then become normal again lol. you do use g12 right?

Check all your hoses, the heater core, and the radiator for leaks. Do you see any dried-up antifreeze residue anywhere indicative of a coolant leak?

What would dried-up antifreeze look like?

I'm having issues with coolant leak on my B6 1.8T A4. It's not dumping out like the original poster but it's leaking especially on short trips (3 blocks or half a mile) or when using the heater. The most I lost at one time was a pint.

there will be pink or white spots depending on the g12:water ratio is in your system. and since you have a 1.8T check the coolant flange on the back of the engine, there will be pink/white spots on top of the tranny and trailing down on the backside of the engine

what about for a 2.8 any particular places i should check for leaks? do you think dumping a bottle of stop leak into the radiator is a good idea or would help any?
