Water pump belt question
OK, I did my timing belt recently.
The water pump belt is run off of the powersteering which is run off of the serpentine belt.
When I put it back together, It was kind of awkward the way the water pump belt goes on around these two disks that you bolt on to the water pump.
I thought I had it tight, gave it a few turns by hand, all seemed well.
Now I get a little noise from that pulley, but I noticed that when I first start it or the engine is off, the belt is pretty loose. It doesnt even turn for 30 secs or so, then starts to turn. I am not having any cooling issues, but I am going to go back in to try and fix it right.
Has anyone had a similar issue with the water pump belt? Is it supposed to be kind of loose? Or did I maybe get one of the plates backwards and that is why it is loose?
If anyone can take a look at their water pump belt, and let me know if it is tight or loose, that may help.
Its a 97 1.8TQ. Anyone ever have a similar issue? Did I put one of the plates on backwards or something? Or am I freaking for no good reason? Like I said, engine temp is normal, belt is turning waterpump.
Thanks!

RE: Water pump belt question
it isnt supposed to be loose. thats the whole point of a tensioner. i only know about my 12v but i'm assuming the 1.8t has close to the same kinda setup. your tensioner should be keeping your belt wrapped around those pulleys fairly tight. are you sure you put your serpentine belt on correctly?

You obviosly did not read the post in its entirety:
The water pump belt is run off of the powersteering which is run off of the serpentine belt.
The serpentine is tight and turns the powersteering, which has a second pulley that connects to the water pump.
Its a 971.8T.

Anyone? Sorry to keep posting, I know someone out there has done their 1.8T timing belt and can answer this.
Thanks for anyone out there that can give me a heads up on the water pump belt.

RE: Water pump belt question
AEB
found it in the maintenence book.
I am pretty sure i have one of the two plates reversed, so the inner channel is not in a proper v-shape.
I guess I was just looking for clarification that I made a retarded mistake.
I am going to pull bumper and rad this weekend and get it on there right.
