Vibration/low humming noise
Hi everyone, I'm new here but have been reading the forum for a bit and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. I have a question about my 1999 A4 1.8T. 5 spd, quattro.
At highway speeds, around 65-75 there is a very low humming/groaning sound accompanied by a vibration (not shake)in the wheel. The noise and vibration are probably not noticed by passengers, but i can notice it. The noise goes with engine speed; when I push in the clutch it goes away 100%. It gets a little deeper when turning slightly to the left or right (changing lanes). Wheel bearings are good, new control arms, tires are brand new. It's really annoying and prevents it from being a nice drive on the highway. Any ideas? I'm thinking exhaust or CVs maybe but my mechanic says CV's are good, but this makes me wonder... Thanks for looking!
oh, there is also an annoying rattling/vibration noise that can be heard by others that sounds like coming behind the pass sidedash when driving at 2.2-2.4k rpms, usually in low gears on bumpy roads, not sure if that could be related

RE: Vibration/low humming noise
you suffer the mechanics syndrome ( any noise is a problem ) it could be the serpentine belt tensioner/alternator bushings, get a tech in there with you ( preferably female) and get them to listen, it could be a pipe vibrating on the chassis like the aircon pipes
