It was changed about a thousand miles ago, it doesn't happen at all at hot idle, just a few seconds on a cold startup, I used a 10w30 weight oil, should I cosider using a different weight?

Well thats your problem, and i would guess you dont have the larger oem filter... So get 5w40 either mobil 1 or amasoil or whatever its called.. They are synthetic and the filter allows for better oil circulation..

Its a 1.8t.. The cam adjuster noise is different than the start up noise from the lifters isnt it? Besides that, Audi recomends 5w40 with the bigger oil filter to reduce sludge and improve circulation. Your cold lifters are gasping for some thinner oil to suck up....

Im aware that everybody else is talking about the 1.8 but that guy had a 3.0
