Valet Key Programming

RE: Valet Key Programming
Maybe I should clarify. The valet key should open doors and start the car. Mine opens the door, but when in the ignition, the "key" symbol blinks in the dash and the car doesn't start.
So I assume the key has to be programmed to the car, the question is how? Any ideas?
Thanks.

RE: Valet Key Programming
hey, i have the same problem, i just bought a key on ebay, and got it cut at the audi dealership, i didnt get it programed. i tried to program the key it opens the doors but will not start the car, it has no buttons so i do not know how to program it. what i did try is, i put my old key into the ignition and started the car, then i closed the door with the new key, and that was it, i stared the car with my new key but the light still flashes, and its only good for a certain amount of time, let me know if you got a way to program a valet key. thanks

I admit to being a little overwhelmed with the amount of stuff you need to learn when you buy a used Audi. But my current understanding is that although the dealership does have to program the immobilizer (the control unit in the dash that syncs with the key fob), as long as you have at least one working key fob, you don't need the dealer to program additional key fobs to sync up with the immobilizer - you can do it yourself. There are numerous "how to" instructions on the Internet. I haven't tried one of them yet, but I'm going to as soon as the spare key fob I've ordered comes in at the dealership. If you don't have a working key fob, I think you might need the dealer to program the new one. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong (please do!).
