Vag Com Misfire activation problem????
Hello everyone,
Two days a go when i was driving, the car began shaking so i drove it about 300feets to my parking lot. Then i ran a vag com and found codes for random misfires and misfire on cylinder 2. My car is a 97 a4 1.8T FWD.
I cleared the codes, because i wanted to move my coils around to see if they are the source, but then when i turn the car on again the check engine light doesn't glow anymore and i get no codes. ( Havent change the coils yet, just wanted to make sure it was #2). When i try to mesure the misfires with block 15-16, it says misfire detection deactivated??????
My question is how do i reactive misfire detection???? I'm aware that the cause of misfire is the coil or the icm but i need to figure out wich one.
Thx !!

RE: Vag Com Misfire activation problem????
On that year model its not gonna be the coil, but the ignition output stage thats bolted onto the air box.
Later models have the output stage built into the coils which goes bad.

Same thing, audi just calls it the power output stage because of it does. Look.
Checking power output stage
l
Signals to power output stage OK →Chapter.
–
Disconnect 4-pin harness connector from power output stage.
–
Connect Voltage Tester -VAG1527B- between Battery Positive Voltage (B+) and, in turn, each terminal of power output stage 4-pin connector.
–
Crank starter for a few seconds in each case.
LED must blink all 4 times
If the LED in the tester does not blink for all terminals:
–
Replace power output stage.
Note[/align]
LED testers with very little power consumption glow slightly before cranking the engine. During cranking they will get brighter or darker.

Thanx, i'll try to help as much as i can, im not quite up to speed on all the aftermarket though. Years of changing the same f******* parts all day can make ya hate this crap a little.

Thx a lot auditech79, i really apreciate your help. I will test the module for sure. If it's broken, is it possible to get it repaired by an electronic shop, what could possibly go wrong in the electronic module except a burned coil or capacitor?????

RE: Vag Com Misfire activation problem????
Umm, well you aren't gonna need to test it really its about a 98% chance thats what it is and it cannot be repaired. The bad news is the power output stage on your vehicle is very $$$$$$$ expensive. $300 on that model if i remember right.
