vag-com ebay cable
So I decided to try the vag-com cable on ebay just for fun. Figured I could check for codes and it's not going to cost me $200+ from AWE. Anyways, I get it today and try it out and of course, there aren't any drivers with the cable nor any online I can use. It appears that on the Ross-Tech website they say that a USB <-> Serial adapter doesnt work with their software. Anyone have any advice on getting it to work?
BTW, I got it from autonostics.

I got an e-bay cable too, but from a different seller named
alpha-bid, but he provided a disc with the drivers and an older version of the software that is free I guess and should work. I have not had time to play around with it yet, but I figured for $20 it was worth a shot.

contact your seller about drivers - then when you plug the cable in - it will ask you to locate the drivers - choose the folder you downloaded as the location of the drivers instead of the ross-tech folder
ebay cables can only use 311.2 and 409(maybe)

Oh I understand how to do the drivers and I think I may have found some online that may work. I can't use my normal laptop since it uses Vista Ultimate x64 so I've gotta get my older laptop running and get the software up on it.
Hopefully that will work otherwise, this cable's getting returned for a refund and I'll give the alpha-bid a try. I figure trying $50 in cables is a whole lot better than that 200+

I bought a serial cable on ebay and it works with 311.2 and 409. I also use a PCMCIA <--> serial adapter for my laptop. Ebay cables work well for reading/clearing codes, but you just can't access the advanced features of the ross-tech software.
