Default vac leak?

car started idling rough after i took of my valve cover. so i thought it was my coil packs. really rough idle. but not dying. so i was changing coolant today and i started it up and heard a hissing noise. i felt around and a hose little coupling looked cracked just behind the fuel bar. by the fire wall. it was coming out of a tube coming off the top of the valve cover. i looked closer and the little coupler was broken and the hose was in two peices! the bottom peice was sucking air (hissing noise) i tried ot hook it back up but it was broken. i put my finger in the little hissing hose to cut it off. INSTANT idle smoothed out and quieted down. as soon as i lifted my finger the car started ocughing and sputtering again. i owuld post pics but my phone is messed up. what is this?!?!?

it is behind the fuel rail, and it is a vac line, just go to the parts store, for about $1 you get a foot of vac line, then for maybe the same you get small clamps

put both clamps on the vac line, stick one end on the fuel pressure regulator(fpr), the other on the intake mani and tighten the clamps

you are talking about the blue hose in the pic with the arrow pointing to it, right? http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=125055
