GIAC makes 2 different chips. One for the K03 turbo and one for the K04 turbo. You can run the k03 chip on a K04 turbo, but wont get the full potential out of the k04 turbo with it. You cant run K04 chip on a k03 turbo. Its not really advised to run K03 software/chip on a K04 turbo for long though, some people have had problems doing that. Im not sure if that answers your question, but its all you need to know.

ok thats cool. but the k04 software, is that the same as doing a performance ecu upgrade. or is that a whole different software? so for example. lets say i buy a k04 and i wanna do a performance ecu upgrade as well. will i have to do both k04 software and ecu performance software. or are they the same package?

 

If you install a K04 setup you will have to upgrade your injectors and you should also upgrade the software to the K04 file

You can run a K04 with a K03 stage 1+ (big injector file) but you will need to use a manual boost controller to limit the boost spikes.

If you have K03 stage 1+ and up upgrade to a K04 turbo you will be doing a ECU upgrade as it is completely different software.

the k04 software is the ecu performance upgrade, so you will only need the giac k04 software.
there are just multiple chips you could theoretically run, but not two at the same time.

Not necessarily. In the world of b5's things are a little different. You can get the basic GIAC file that doesn't require bigger injectors or you can go with the more agressive pc-16 or j-31. I don't know if he has a b5, or a b6.

 

i have a b5(98, 1.8t qu). so let me get this straight once and for all. my k03 is done, not producing anything over 4lbs boost. my car is stock, no mods except rims and such.i wanna buy a k04. so i go buy the k04. now, im not going to run on k03 software. so, i goto the giac dealer in my city and buy k04 software. vroom vroom upgrade. but, i also see on the internet that giac has ecu upgrades. not specifing that its for the k04 or anything to do with the turbo. but being that the k04 software has been installed do i need the giac performace chip software upgrade?(just so you know, this is just an example. not reality. YET).thats what im confused about. is the k04 software completly different from the ecu performance upgrade. thats all. dont tell me that its different from k03 software, because i know this. i just want to know if they are 2 different software or they same thing.
