RE: Tune Up 96 A4 2.8 Quattro
Hi nicholaspaolazzi, welcome to the forum. Do you think you might be willing to do the tuneup yourself? It would save yourself a lot of money!
I don't think I would trust an Audi at a normal mechanic though. They usually aren't that knowledgeable of our cars. Try to find a specialized audi/vw mechanic. I'd guess a tuneup may cost anywhere from 200-400 bucks.

Thanks guys, the car has about 85,000 miles on it. I also had another question, on the dashboard, the red lighting does not light up the speedometer from 120mph-160mph, any idea how to fix that.

Sure you are going to have to replace a lightbulb or two...
Remove the plastic trim piece above the steering wheel. It just pulls away. Underneath you'll find two philips #2 screws. Remove them, and the entire cluster will pull out - but only far enough for you to remove the wiring harnesses. They are tricky little devils too! You'll see a bracket on two of the plugs that you have to pull out (it's a different color than the plug) in order to remove the wiring plug. Be gentle when you twist the check engine light wires, they just twist out. Once the instrument cluster is out you'll see what to do then. You can pick up the bulbs at the dealer for a few bucks.

Most of what is done for a "tune-up " is to change the spark-plugs, and inspect a bunch of stuff so that they can charge you a lot more money.
You didn't say whether the car was tip or manual. Either way, unless you know the service records I'd do the following
1. Oil and filter, mobil 1 (You can do it yourself)
2. Air filter (do it your self)
3. spark plugs
4. If auto transmission, think about draining a few quarts of AUDI/VW transmission fluid and changing the center and rear differential fluid
5. Buy some pentosyn power steering fluid. Get a turkey baster and empty the reservoir and put in fresh fluid.
6 It is likely getting close to time for a new timing belt. ($$$)
7. Bleed brakes if it has been over 2 years.
8. Check the battery electrolyte level. Fill with distilled water if necessary to just below the bottom of the fill holes

RE: Tune Up 96 A4 2.8 Quattro
Sorry to steal the thread, But I am looking to do a Tune-up as well on my 99 2.8 Quattro ( 156 000 KMS ).
IF someone could tell me EXACTLY where to get a TUNE - UP KIT ( not a kit really but basically everything I need to do a full and proper tune-up...eg. spark plugs etc.) and which brands I should get ( eg. BOSCH etc.)
Thanks
