tires keep loosing tread!! help!!
I have a Audi A4 1999.5, 1.8T AWD Quattro.. I got my car a year ago and everything was fine. a few months later my back right tire lost all its tread..and the back left tire was completely fine. SO... I thought no big deal, ill get it replaced, right? WRONG [:@].. 2 months later, my back left tire does the same thing. So I then proceed to get that replaced, and now I am back to square one.. and my back right tire has lost all its tread again... Does anyone know why this might be? and if so, is it a costly fix? (im a starving college student...lol) I am thinking about going to the dealership for service, but I dont want the repair costs to take me by surprise.. [8D]

RE: tires keep loosing tread!! help!!
Is your car a Quatro? With all wheel drive if there are even slight diferences in tread hights that can make one wheel spin faster or slower than the others and can cause your tire eating problem.
I would have it aligned as well.

Where exactly is the wear? All along? In the middle? on the inside? outside?
Does it look like someone took a cheeze grader to it?
How does the wheel wells look? is there any rubber anywhere? Put a glove on, and reach all the way around the tire, from one side to the other, Is there anything close to it?
Alignment is probably the problem, but your wearing faster than impropper alignment... How are the other tires?

alignment, thats the solution, just get the car aligned and your fine. simple fix, if you get it aligned and it keeps happening than you have some bad suspension parts... ie: control arms, tie rods...

99.9% of the time, an alignment problemwillaffect more than one tire.
If you are losing the tread across the whole tire suface, you likely have a wheel assembly or suspension problem. Likely culprits are: wheel bearing, dragging brake caliper, blown shock, bent or worn control arm, etc. A picture might help us figure it out but if the tire is too bad to see the wear pattern a picutre probably won't help.

The front tires are fine, its just the back tires that are doing this. I know I need to get my front-tie rods fixed..
That's my drawing of what it looks like.
Anyone have an idea of how much it would cost for the alignment?
