Tiptronic problem...
My tranny will downshift into 4th gear when im at highway speeds so easily lately and then back to 5th and then back to 4th like it cant make up its mind when i give just a little bit more gas. If Im in tip mode it will downshift automaticaly to 4th just as easily and then stay there until i shift it up manualy. Its getting really annoying. It downshifts when i give it just slightly more gas, when its not necessary to downshift is the best i can explain it. This only happens at highway speeds, never in the city under 60mph. I wonder if a tip chip would cure this?

RE: Tiptronic problem...
i don't think a tip chip would cure this. but mine doesn't shift that easily in auto mode and in tip mode i have to floor it all the way for it to shift. then i got sick of it and got the code for the old tranny mode. because it stops the downshifting when floored in tip mode. Sounds like something is going in the tranny. sorry i don't think i am helping

Didn't catch your year? I know for the DBW modules, there is a kick down adjustment that can be done. Not sure about shifting to 4th.
I'd have someone with a real vagcom check for transmission codes.

Ooops missed the sig.
Although it is unlikely a fluid problem, when is the last time that you checked the tranny fluid level or changed the fluid with some fresh?
From my own experience the tip chip is hard to shift down to 4th. My only complaint is that I think it upshifts a bit too early.
On my car, I was getting memory error codes from the TCU. the new tip chip fixed that problem.

RE: Tiptronic problem...
Even without the chip tip now ever sence adding in the K04 the trip doesnt shift between gears sometimes when I think it should. It will stick at a higher RPM in a lower gear while im going a steady spead for a second or so. I know a second doesnt seem like a long time but you sure notice it. I was hoping getting the trip chip would solve this but we will see once I get the money.

old thread but my S4 is doing this. It started only at hwy speeds but now will do it even sitting at a light sometimes. Only does it once per trip. The foot/brake light on the shifter surround lights up when it does this. Did you ever figure this out?
