Default timing belt, yes waterpump, no

So I spent a ton of money on my car lately: timing belt, valve cover gasket, automatic transmission service, 30K mile service, CV-boots, power steering pump, etc....however, did I have to replace the water pump when I had my timing belt done? I got a deal on the timing belt, only $300. Also, what is the best engine oil for a 96 A4 2.8L Quattro with 130K miles? Thanks!

When was the last time you replaced the water pump? They usually last for 60-85,000 miles before you are suggested to replace it.

No idea when the water pump was replaced...the timing belt was done some 800 miles ago...so pretty fresh.

For oil, I like Mobil 1 5W-30. Always have, it has served me very well in just about every car I've ever put it in. Just my .02.

Not to sure on a4's, but I had my water pump replaced at about 68K at the Dealer
bec. it was leaking & under warranty... so u should look into having it done. To bad bec.
u couldve saved a bundle on Labor when u got ur Tming belt done.

for oil i use amsoil 5w40 euro formula for my 97 12v. i have 140000 on mine. yes you should replace your water pump when doing your timing belt. i didn't and a year after it failed. if i did it first it would have cost me only for the pump not for all the labor charges. point taken it would have saved me lots of cash to do it the first time around
