Timing belt questions
Why does the manual recommend having the timing belt changed at 106,000 miles (or somewhere around that) and everyone on the forum recommends doing it after 60,000? If it does break between 60 adn 106k miles, will Audi cover it? I have a 2001 2.8 A4 in case it matters.
Thanks!

RE: Timing belt questions
the tensioner for the timing belt on 200 and older cars is what fails and cause the belt to go. The belt is meant to last to 90k miles on NORMAL driving, racing or lots of spirited driving lowers the mileage. I would say if you have a 2001 (I think not sure) you may be fine, but I would do it at 60k and 120k for peace of mind. Trust me its better thn waiting and having a failure.

RE: Timing belt questions
i have a 97 and even in the bentley book it says nothing about changing it... but as liquidxit2 said, the tensioner fails, it gets really loose and the crank pulley tears off all the teeth in one rotation, ill take a pic of my belt, the whole thing looks just fine, except for like 10 missing teeth where it wraps around the crank. on the 1.8t's it always breaks around 100k
