Default Ticking - Lifters - Sludge?

I have been doing a bunch of reading.

I am looking at a 2000 a4 1.8q with 55k one owner.

Only noticealbe problem is ticking noise from (facing the car) right side mid engine point.

I have narrowed it down just from reading to either valves or lifters.

It is worth paying around 9-10k for a car that is making this noise? Miles are pretty low for a 2000 so I assume it's not something else major going on.

I read some people use a solvent to clean the sludge out and it semi works.

Next question is there a valve adjustment maintence on these cars, like a scheluded maintence?

Thanks

Almost all 1.8T cars have a little ticking.

tack on another 850 to 1000 to that price cause you're due for the t-belt

in the UK sludge was eradicated by synthetic oils and never heard of here for many years ( unless you don't change the oil and filter when you should ) then you get what you should expect

Easy insurance... if you buy it, drop the oil pan and clean out the pickup screen, then run some seafoam through the crankcase.

lets look at this problem in a different way, a 5 year old car service to the book has 5,000 miles on the clock old folk like me don't drive much/ same car with 50,000 on the clock and service history, synthetic oil and regular filter changes in both cases ((( which car would you buy )))

On a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to clean out the screen in the oil pan?

I assume it's not that big of a deal but I have never owned an audi so?

Really?

What makes this so hard?

Is there something blocking access to the oil pan?

I have been a honda guy for years and the pan is just a few bolts away from comming off.
