When you pull the vents out, there is a power wire that runs along the top that is for the lights on the wheel that closes/opens the vents. I tapped into that for the power, and ran a ground to the nearest metal part I could find (cant remember exactly, but around the radio.) So it lights up when I turn my lights on at night.
Pre 00 or 99.5 cars dont have lights in the wheel that closes/opens the vents so they have to look elsewhere for a 12v power source to light their gauge up.
